After what feels like 5 months of winter, I’m sure you’re as ready as I am to get out of dodge, or at least pretend you are. I’ve found a couple of fun ideas that may help your winter attitude and bring in some sunshine and happiness, right here in Colorado.
The Springs Resort and Spa – Pagosa Springs
This hot springs resort boasts the deepest geothermal spring in the world! Within steps of the hotel, guests can enjoy landscaped hot spring pools of varying temperatures from about 84-114 degrees, so there is a pool for every person in every season! The San Juan River is just below the pools if you enjoy the sauna-style hot and cold interval. Additionally, Wolf Creek Ski Area is only 30 minutes away, and they have gotten massive amounts of snow this season.
Great Wolf Lodge – Colorado Springs
Great Wolf Lodge is a great option for families, sure to give your kids an unforgettable experience. Their Indoor water park boasts 6 water slides, a wave pool, a splash pool, a water fort tree house, and life-size lily pads for your kids to try to cross without falling in the water! If swimming and playing in the water isn’t your thing, there are also tons of activities fo you to do as a family. From the bowling alley and arcade, to the ropes course and their own “mining experience”, you’re sure to have an evening of family fun! On top of that, Great Wolf has some free activities that include story time, character appearances, and even a PJ party! During all this, mom and dad may even be able to slip away to the spa for an hour of relaxation as well. Prices vary, but rooms usually start around $150 per night and this includes access to the water park from 1pm the day of check-in and kids’ activities. I definitely recommend if you have little ones that love the water!
Gaylord Rockies Resort and Convention Center – Aurora
Newest of the listed options, Gaylord Rockies boasts the fourth largest of the five Gaylord resorts in the US. They have really tried to capture the “Colorado Feel” with the architecture, and from the exposed wood beams to the A-frame style building, they’ve done a really great job of keeping the essence of the mountains. Gaylord Rockies has an 85-acre recreation area that includes a gym, infinity pool, lazy river, water slides, and year-round heated outdoor pools as well. Like most hotel and resorts, there’s a spa to pamper yourself, but what sets this one apart is the four different restaurants with different cuisine inspirations – Asian, Italian, Steakhouse, and Sports Bar. The sports bar, called Mountain Pass Drinks, Food, and Sports, has a 75-foot wall of TV screens, and would be a great place to hang out and catch your favorite game. Not your average game day, here! With all these activities in one place, you’re sure to have a great short weekend trip. You don’t even have to go far, either, as Gaylord Rockies is located right near DIA!
Dunton Hot Springs – Dolores
While Dunton Hot Springs doesn’t much let you forget about winter, what it does do is help you celebrate it. It is a small and exclusive resort in an old mining ghost town that is nestled in the San Juan mountain range in southern Colorado. It may be a trek, (8 and a half hours from Denver) but that could be just what you need for a romantic, long weekend away. Aside from typical outdoor winter activities, Dunton Hot Springs has amazing quality food, lavishly decorated log cabins, and of course, the hot springs. Check out their winter escape video here.
We may be nearing the tail end of winter here, but there’s still plenty to do! With all these amazing things to do in Colorado, who would want to leave? If you know of anyone looking to move to the area or possibly find an investment property, send them our way, as we would love to help!
