The Safari Guide to Listing Your Home
This is the fourth installment in our weekly blog series to help you prepare your home for listing in today’s market – honey-do’s! If you follow this 8-week guide, you’ll be able to break up all those to-do’s into manageable steps that will leave you in the position to present your home in the best light! Check out the prior blogs in the series here: week 1, week 2, and week 3.
Honey-do’s
Make simple honey-do repairs yourself. Anything quick, inexpensive, and easy for you to tackle fits that bill! Make a list, and add anything that is broken or shabby, dated, or needs a touch up. This includes things like caulking windows and bath tile, replacing light switch plates throughout the house, baseboard touch-ups, installing newer blinds, updating light fixtures, and even replacing kitchen and bath hardware. After our visit to your home, we will have made recommendations on the style direction for many of these items. Every house has a natural style. If the home is more than 10 years old, we can help with design recommendations on light fixtures, hardware, and color direction. This will accentuate your style while refreshing with today’s design vibe! Speaking of color direction, we also recommend giving your front and back door a new coat of paint! (This is a super, secret, Safari recommendation!)
This week the honey-do’s include quick, inexpensive, and easy updates too! Staying in our previously recommended design lane and color direction for your home’s natural style, this week is the perfect time to replace curtain panels, bath towels, green indoor plants, area rugs, etc. Call us for our ‘go-to’ retailers. No kidding, we know where to make these purchases with strict budgets in mind. For example, we know an area rug retailer where 4 times a year you can buy a $900 rug for $99.
You’ll be surprised at how completing some of these easy projects will change the character of your home. You’ll make it feel updated, clean, and appealing to today’s buyer. We all know that first impressions are critical. When buyers see a home with all the small visible details taken care of it will seem move-in ready, and a home that has been cared for throughout your ownership.
Check our our printable checklist with some common honey-do projects below. Your home certainly won’t need all of these things, but it’s a good place to start!
